Water Purification System for Don Bosco Boys Home
Don Bosco Boys’ Home (Murunkan, Mannar) has been serving underprivileged youth since 2004. Currently, the school operates a boys’ hostel, a vocational training center and an evening class center. There are 70 children at the hostel. About 250 youth benefit from the vocational training daily.
Obtaining safe drinking water has been a major challenge for the home due to the high calcium content in the region’s water supply. In 2007, a NGO generously provided the home with a water purifying system, which fulfilled the home’s and immediate community’s water needs. However, since 2018, the system has malfunctioned, and is not repairable.
Currently, the children rely on water from the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, which is not suitable for drinking. As a result, providing safe and clean drinking water has become an urgent priority for the home.
LetUsHelpNow Foundation is providing LKR 495,000.00 to purchase a water purification system. The home has obtained two quotes and has selected the lowest cost system. The system is expected to be installed within two weeks.
